The first official shop overseas
The official local mascot of Uji in Japan, Matcha Prince, is having the first official shop overseas. The grand open was on 10th Jan, with a grand opening ceremony.

The first shop is in Xinyi District, in where the Taipei 101 (also known as the Taipei World Financial Center) located. The shop is located in the 2nd floor of the commercial facility newly opened in January called the Breeze Center (with floor space 54,000 m², around 200 shops). The second shop is at the famous sightseeing location, Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County. The themed shop is operated at a renewed store of a Taiwan black tea breeding company.
On 10th Jan, at the same time as the grand opening of the Breeze Center, the opening ceremony of the Matcha Prince themed shop was also held. The guest from the commercial facility and the Uji Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended to the ceremony. After that, there was a meet and greet section with the mascot, dancing stage show, interview and also the Matcha drinking time.
Besides, the same ceremony was also held at the shop in Sun Moon Lake from 11am on 11th Jan. Special campaign was also carried out from 10th to 13th Jan

Who is ‘Matcha Prince’?
The winner mascot designs from 629 other competitors of the open contest carried out by Kyoto Regional Revitalization Project in 2012. Matcha Prince, a character who love Matcha most, is designed by Kumai Yurina and Suzuki Airi, born in Mar, 2013. Matcha Prince got into top 5 in the ‘Yuru Character (R) Grand Prix 2014 contest’ (The winner in Kansai area) and had the first debut in Taiwan in Oct, 2018.
